Biography
Nathan Paul Smith's (b. 1974) art focuses primarily on city scenes that are “real yet surreal slices of the life.” Throughout his work, Smith depicts both human and nonhuman figures within these cityscapes through the mediums of acrylic, ink, watercolor, gouache, and tempura. Smith's stylistic elements derive from his self-taught studies of anime, manga, French comics, and – as he notes – “the great masters,” while his inspiration largely stems from his observations and interests in, “animal behavior, cinema, the occult, and UFO’s.” Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Smith grew up primarily in Delaware and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Smith began teaching himself art in his late twenties. His artistic practice is located at the Creative Vision Factory in Wilmington, Delaware.
